Ghana, renowned as the 'Gold Coast,' is a lively country with a rich cultural heritage and a flourishing economy. For various reasons, many Ghanaians find themselves overseas, seeking improved opportunities and sending money back home. The World Bank reported that remittances to Ghana reached about USD 3.5 billion in 2020, showing how vital these funds are to the nation's economy.

Challenges of sending money to Ghana

International money transfers, including those to Ghana, often come with high transaction fees, long processing times, complex procedures, limited payout options, and security concerns. However, Mama Money is here to make these hurdles a thing of the past.

  1. High Fees: Traditional banking systems and some remittance services often impose high fees for international transfers. These fees may include a flat transfer fee plus an additional percentage of the total amount sent. Hence, the larger the sum, the higher the fee. Both the sender and receiver may be charged for the transaction.
  2. Long Processing Times: Traditional money transfer methods could take days for the recipient to get the money in Ghana due to various procedures, checks, and balances that financial institutions follow. This is particularly inconvenient in emergencies when immediate funds are needed.
  3. Complex Procedures: Some traditional banks and money transfer services require paperwork and several forms of identification for both the sender and the receiver. Moreover, the sender might have to provide proof of income and explain the purpose of the transfer. This process can be cumbersome and time-consuming.
  4. Limited Payout Options: Traditional banking institutions might not be accessible in some rural parts of Ghana. Recipients may need to travel long distances to reach the nearest bank or money transfer agent. Furthermore, traditional banking hours may restrict recipients from accessing their money outside regular business hours.
  5. Security Concerns: There are also worries about the security of international transfers. Risks may involve sensitive information being intercepted, potential scams, or physical safety concerns in carrying large amounts of cash from the payout location.

Mama Money is here to address these challenges, offering a secure, quick, easy-to-use service with a competitive fee structure. With a range of payout options, including mobile money and banking, recipients in even the most remote parts of Ghana can receive their money directly.

Our mission is to simplify the process for you, allowing you to concentrate on what truly matters: supporting your loved ones.
